Hundreds of Hats for Vets
Seventeen inmates at the Virginia Correctional Center for Women, in Goochland, knitted hundreds of hats in recent weeks to donate to veterans at the McGuire Medical Center. Hats will go to men and women in the cancer center, and other areas of need.
The Elizabeth Kates Foundation provided yarn for the project, assuming a large supply of yarn would last for a while. However, the inmates were so enthused about the opportunity to donate to such a worthy cause, it took only a month to deplete 25 large bags of yarn. Foundation board members are once again in the process of collecting more yarn for the knitting group, because inmates hope that making and donating hats to veterans will be an ongoing project.
Unique McKibbens, of McGuire Medical Center was thrilled to receive 250 hand-made hats, and said that the veterans would be very grateful for the donation. |
